Pandemic-destroyed restaurants put equipment, furniture on the block
THE ASSETS of Cape Town restaurants that collapsed during lockdown are continuing to pour on to auction floors. Western Cape Auctioneers will from today at 11am, until next Wednesday at 11am, stage a timed online auction of the assets of two defunct restaurants.
The Robin Mills Group will on Tuesday at 10.30am call for bids for the furniture and equipment of a once popular sushi restaurant in Green Point.
Chris Baard, managing director of Western Cape Auctioneers, says there is some top-quality catering equipment and furniture among the lots.
“There are, for example, several Werzalit weatherproof four-seater tables and chairs – 30 of which are practically new – as well as other tables and chairs; a corner lounge suite; under-counter fridges of various sizes; a stainless-steel pizza fridge; gas cooking equipment; a 32-chicken electric barbecue and a 2m by 2.5m cold room.
“Other assets likely to attract strong bidding include a new 1.5m display unit with heating and cooling facilities; a high-pressure Broaster fryer; extractor fans and motors; air conditioners and a variety of restaurant necessities such as furniture, crockery, cutlery and various other ancillary equipment,” Baard adds.
Western Cape will also be offering a wide range of butchery equipment.
The list of assets on offer, plus details for bidding registration, are at www. westerncapeauctions.co.za (it is operating a new bidding system which requires new registration). Viewing is on Monday from 9am to 4pm, with Covid-19 regulations in force, at the auction house’s premises at Klein Joostenberg, Route R304 (Klipheuwel-Stellenbosch road), off the N1’s truck weighbridge.

Items include quality tables, chairs, crockery, glassware, kitchen equipment and a wide range of catering items.
