Kim sets sights on the new in 2021

- KIMAYA NARIANAN

2021 is already feeling like the new 2020, with all its sensational historical events and drama – just two months in.

Donald Trump got the Twitter boot, Elon Musk took pole position by giving Jeff Bezos a rather expensive boot off his prime perch on the World’s Richest List… and Kim Kardashian looks set to give Kanye West a literal boot out the door.

It’s out with the old in 2021 for Kim, in more ways than one, it seems. Hit E! Reality show Keeping up with the Kardashians ends soon, and its superstar has also filed papers to bid adieu to her marriage. All’s well that ends well?

The Kardashians now head for a clean start with new lucrative deals with Hulu and Star for an unscripted show set to debut later this year.

The tailend of KUWTK will feature Kim’s marital woes and rumours are rife that the new show will dish dirt on the Kimye divorce.

Adversaries beware, the reality TV queen won’t be off screens for that long. Claws and all.

It was revealed Kim would return to the screens after the news broke of her divorce from her husband of almost seven years. She is said to be “sad but relieved” after giving things “plenty of time”.

Kim has hired A-list divorce lawyer Laura Allison Wasser to represent her. Wasser is said to be so top-shelf, her initials are LAW and she has played a hand in most big celebrity splits, ranging from Angelina Jolie to Stevie Wonder.

Wasser handled Kim’s last divorce from Kris Humphries. It is reported that neither Kim nor Kanye will contest their prenup, making it somewhat easier to split up their joint $2.1 billion (R30bn) in assets.

It is believed that the split did not come as a surprise to the couple’s four children North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, Psalm, 21 months, as the kids have “mostly seen them apart”. They have reportedly opted for joint custody.

Kanye suspects his failed 2020 presidential campaign was the final straw that broke Kimye’s back.

Reports claim Kanye’s infamous statement: “Slavery is a choice” – which left Kim “mortified” – to TMZ in 2018, was a turning point for the couple. Kanye, who suffers from bipolar disorder, also revealed he wasn’t taking his medication in 2018, because it stifled his creativity.

Things took a turn for the worst at his presidential campaign rally when he had a breakdown, ranting about abortion, followed by him screaming, “I almost killed my daughter”.

A Twitter rampage followed, in which Kanye claimed the movie, Get Out, was based on his life and referred to his mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, as “Kris-Jong-Un”. He also claimed Kim and Kris tried to “lock (him) up with a doctor”.

He further insinuated that Kim had had an affair with rapper Meek Mill and that he’d been trying to divorce her since that incident.

Kimye then went to the Caribbean with the pastor who married them for a trip that would determine the state of their relationship.

Kim and Kanye have had minimal contact since their argument at her 40th birthday party in October 2020 in Tahiti, to which he arrived late.

The final blow to Kimye was a “big fight” the couple had in early December. The turbulent situation was worsened by a bizarre rumour about Kanye having an affair with Jeffree Star.

How far the news cycle has come from that $130 000 flower wall at their wedding in Italy.

As Kim and ‘Ye go their own way, we can’t help but wonder what else is in the works.

No doubt something both equally dramatic and fabulous before the Kardashians’ new show is set to debut, because you know the saying: “The devil works hard, but Kris Jenner works harder.”
