Poor Adele, she was Robbed

- KIMAYA NARIANAN

ADELE Ferguson was a compassionate young woman emerging from a tragedy – before she became one. She possessed a spirit so optimistic, even the flames that engulfed her life could not destroy it.

The easiest way to describe Adele – an astral-projecting tragedy that made

Hamlet look like child’s play – is to say that she was “Robbed”, quite literally.

Having spent the better part of six episodes being hated for things she had nothing to do with, Adele emerges from the trauma of a fire on her family’s estate that killed her parents.

She is already guilt-ridden, since she was astral-projecting at the time of the fire and was completely unaware of what was going on in her surroundings. Simultaneously, Rob consistently makes her feel guilty for having wealth. After taking over her life, Rob stole any opportunity she had to emerge from that guilt and be free of it.

It was very clear in the flashbacks that Adele and David were very much in love at one time. The poor girl didn’t get to end up with the man she loved, but Rob got to marry him – twice. Adele believed one can trust others, and that made her death a whole lot worse as it mirrored the Caesar-Brutus factor.

She was murdered not only by her best friend, but by someone she trusted would never hurt her, someone whom she loved.

Even worse, it is unclear what happens to the projected consciousness of an astral projector in the event of their body being killed. It raises questions about whether Adele’s consciousness died, or whether it is caught in limbo.

If it is the latter, was she forced to watch Rob impersonate her, ruin the man she loves, and wreak havoc on Louise’s life just as David finally had a shot at happiness? Or is that one step too tragic?
