10 hints that told the twisted truth ‘Behind Her Eyes’

- KIMAYA NARIANAN

IT’S A 6-part series that starts on a slow burn, you may even grow bored and want to drop it. Don’t! Behind Her

Eyes delivers a TV experience that will rocket you to another plane – with no idea how you got there, but you’d be gobsmacked by the journey.

Greed and lust lie at the heart of this dark and twisted Netflix tale of sex, lies and murder.

The protagonists are a wealthy woman, Adele Ferguson, her dashing psychiatrist husband, Dr David Ferguson, his secretary lover, Louise Barnsley, and Adele’s gay, junkie, best friend, Rob Hoyle.

Once we push past the first two episodes, the course is set for high intrigue as we go on a roller-coaster ride into astral planing, literal flyon-the-wall moments (you just have to catch those) and murderous body snatching ... all to THAT end.

And, if trying to untangle your way out of that killer twist was not torture enough, today we reveal 10 clear-as-day hints that would have revealed THAT sensational ending five minutes in ... okay, maybe a little longer.

A tale of two Adeles: All flashbacks show a youthful Adele, kind and filled with empathy. While recovering from the trauma of the fire that killed her parents, Adele remains spirited and happy; a stark contrast to the cold, cunning and neurotic woman that is present-day Adele.

A higher power: Most intimate scenes between David and Louise are displayed from elevated camera angles, including their conversations – a direct indication they were being watched all along, as all scenes observed by the astral projectors were seen from above.

The past behind Rob’s eyes: Every memory of the past revolves around Rob; Adele is rarely seen out of his presence. The memories being characterised in this manner indicate they belonged to Rob, not Adele.

The anti-heroine: From the memories, we know Adele was in the Westlands Clinic as a trauma patient after the fire at her family’s estate – not as a drug addict, like Rob. Adele rebutted Rob’s multiple attempts to get her to use heroin, yet in present time we see her shooting up between her toes like it’s no man’s business.

She also uses dangerous and desperate means to procure the drug and hides it from David. This hard-hitting drug addict is a paradox to the gentle, caring young woman seen in the past, the two could not be more different.

Confessions of an identity thief:

On the bus ride to Adele’s estate, Rob says he can’t believe he’s escaping, going on to say: “That’s what Adele is, an escape from my life” ... and she was, literally. Although that’s already an unnerving statement, “F**k off, old life. Hello new,” had to take the cake. Rob’s dialogue contains not a hint, but an outright confession: implying he was going to the estate with the intention of abandoning his life and using Adele as his escape.

His blue ball: When Rob and Adele astral-project together for the first time, it is seen that Adele’s orb is pink and Rob’s one blue. In the present, David and Louise are seen to be

observed from a blue orb, not a pink one, despite everyone being under the impression Adele is watching them – when it was in fact Rob.

Cooking up evil: Throughout the show, Adele nails the part of a Stepford wife, painstakingly crafting elaborate meals that David barely glances at when he comes home.

However, Adele was never seen cooking in the past; it was Rob who flaunted his cooking skills at the estate, a skill that no doubt came in handy once he/Adele was thrown into that suburban nightmare.

Hidden agenda: In a flashback, when David arrives at the estate, Rob hides behind a wall on his arrival. After David leaves and returns due to an “emergency”, “Adele” is seen hiding behind the exact same wall, before she emerges and unleashes the hysterics over Rob’s “overdose”.

Box of secrets: In the present,

“Adele” hides her heroin in a patterned wooden box. In the past, she gave that same box to Rob so he could hide his drugs and equipment while staying at the estate. After she gives him the box, Rob tells Adele that it will be “something to remember” her by, which implies he was sticking to the plan to take over her life.

The shrink who didn’t look: It is easily observed that David has trouble looking into Adele’s eyes from the moment Rob inhabits her body. This references the title, since the truth about “Adele” lies behind her eyes.

Be it during conversations or sex, David’s inability to look “Adele” in the eyes foreshadows his demise at “her” hands, since someone who can’t look her in the eye stands no chance of discovering the truth that lies behind them.
