’STANGS
LOCAL Roush importer Performance Centre says it expects to welcome the first 2021 Roush Mustangs to its Pretoria showroom in the second quarter. The 2021 Roush Stage 3 Mustang GT gets serious performance upgrades thanks largely to a Roush TVS2650 supercharger. Depending on which package buyers opt for, the V8-powered, supercharged Roush ’Stangs produce up to 578kW. Buyers can also look forward to dynamic upgrades such as 20-inch alloy wheels as well as Roush-calibrated MagneRide adaptive suspension and an aero design kit.
ELECTRIC B
MERCEDES-Benz will soon offer an electric alternative to the S-Class. The new battery-powered sedan, which goes by the name EQS, is set to be revealed on Monday. But not all the information is under wraps until then. The German carmaker recently revealed some of the key technical data. Built around a brand-new scalable architecture designed for electric cars only, the EQS will offer a choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive, with outputs ranging between 245kW and 568Nm, and the range between charges will be as much as 770km, depending on the variant.
DUST BATTLE
NICO Rosberg’s team won the first race of the new electric Extreme E off-road series in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. Lewis Hamilton’s X44 outfit hit problems and finished third in a cloud of dust.
Retired 2016 Formula One champion Rosberg was in Al Ula to celebrate the Desert X Prix victory with Sweden’s triple rallycross champion Johan Kristoffersson and Australian rally driver Molly Taylor. Andretti United, run by Michael Andretti and McLaren F1’s Zak Brown, was second in the three-car final with Sweden’s Timmy Hansen and Britain’s Catie Munnings 23.73 seconds off the pace.
EC0-FRIENDLY
GOOGLE’S Maps app will start directing drivers along routes estimated to generate the lowest carbon emissions based on traffic, slopes and other factors, the company announced recently. The tech giant said the feature would launch later this year in the US and eventually reach other countries as part of its commitment to help combat climate change through its services. Unless users opt out, the default route will be the “ecofriendly” one if comparable options take about the same time, Google said. | Reuters
