Public Protector

PARLIAMENT has named the 26-member committee that will enquire into whether or not there are grounds to remove Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane from office.

“The committee’s 26 members come from each of the 14 political parties represente­d in the National Assembly. Eleven will be voting members of the committee and another 15 will be non-voting members,” Parliament spokespers­on Moloto Mothapo said this week. | Political Bureau

PHAM Minh Chinh, 63, was sworn in as the new prime minister of Vietnam this week, while former prime minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, 66, takes on the role of president of Vietnam.

Ters fraud

THE Department of Employment and Labour has welcomed the investigat­ion into allegation­s of possible corruption and maladminis­tration of the UIF special Covid-19 Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (Ters) benefits.

This is being led by the Special Investigat­ion Unit. The investigat­ion will focus on the payments of Covid-19 Ters benefits to people who were not entitled to receive such payments or submitted false, irregular, invalid or defective applicatio­n to the UIF, including the causes of such maladminis­tration. |
