Langa schools get a digital classroom on wheels
AS THE world marked International Day of Education on Monday and pupils across the nation settle into the 2022 academic year, Coronation Fund Managers announced its support for the Atlas DigiBus mobile digital classroom initiative for five Langa schools.
The 42-seater bus has been repurposed as a mobile classroom equipped with
40 laptops, two teaching stations and an online tracking system.
It will offer children access to excellent academic support and peer-to-peer learning six days a week, borrowing the expertise and materials of Bishops Diocesan College.
Coronation CEO Anton Pillay said a lack of resources seriously disadvantaged millions of pupils.
“As a business that actively champions education in our nation, and through our handson experience of supporting our disadvantaged communities, we are now collaborating on an innovative solution that enables us to bring quality education directly and safely to children in townships,” said Pillay.
In partnership with Atlas and Cognizant, who brought the idea to life, Pillay said they are excited to now be the key funder for the operation and management of the Atlas DigiBus, a state-of-the-art, mobile digital classroom. It will deliver a worldclass curriculum to thousands of learners across five schools in Langa.
Nosipho Poswa from Zimasa Community School could not hide her excitement, as many pupils there would be getting to use computers for the first time.
“Our school will benefit a lot from the DigiBus because it will allow them to use different platforms and will provide us with interactive content.
“Learners will get exposure to how to use computers at a young age. This will also help them to learn maths and English,” she said.
