- KEAGAN MITCHELL keagan.mitchell@inl.co.za

AIMING to inspire a love of small and winged creatures,

The Boy Who Hated Insects tells us the story of Joshua Finkelstein Bade.

On a school trip, Joshua gains a better understanding of insects and sees the important role they play in ecosystems.

Author

Dianne Stewart said she enjoyed doing research for the story.

“Kids should read this book because of the narrative and what they will learn about insects.

“Reading is so important for children. Award-winning author Margaret Atwood said, ‘I read for pleasure; that is the moment I learn the most,’” said Stewart, who writes books for children and adults.

She has published many children’s stories, such as

The Zebra’s Stripes and Other

African Animal Tales, picture books, such as Who’s Afraid of the Dark?, Dudu’s Basket and Lyle the Crocodile.

“I am a nature lover, hence my interest in insects, and I love writing for children,” she added.
