IT’S ALL about the rush of adrenalin for sprinter Vuyo Ngobeni.

Vuyo, 10, blitzed his way to victory in the boys Under-11 100m sprint event, clocking a personal best of 12.38 seconds at the South African Primary School Championships in Potchefstroom last weekend.

He also helped the Western Cape boys U11 relay team to the gold medal.

Vuyo said he felt proud to be the 100m SA champion.

“I am very happy with my two gold medals and to finish in the top five in the 80m sprint and long-jump events.

“I was very nervous because it was my first national competition and I did not know what to expect.

“Overall, it was an amazing competition and I hope to compete at this level on a regular basis.

“Winning at nationals was the highlight of my season.

“What I learnt was that if you work hard you will be rewarded,” he said.

The Itheko Sport Athletic Club athlete thanked his coach Paul Jacobus.

“I believe he is the best and is a champion maker.

“Also my clubmates, who always push me when we train together and Curro Durbanville, who always support me in my athletics,” said Vuyo.

“My mother says I was (and still am) hyperactive, so she had to put me in sports to release the energy.”

Jacobus said Vuyo has developed well since joining his training group.

“He is still in his developing phase but shows signs of being a great sprinter and long jumper,” he said.

His mother Latasha described him as a very energetic, competitive and hard-working young boy.

“Vuyo has achieved way beyond our expectations and we are truly blessed and proud parents.

“Thank you to everyone who believed, supported and always encouraged Vuyo to be his best.

“The support has been incredible and we are truly grateful,” she said.
