One night experience at the Bridgerton Affair
THE Bridgerton Affair is still one of the most talked-about events, a week later.
Even with all the drama at the Oscars, conversation still swirled around about who looked the best, who looked shabby and how it was one of the best parties on South African soil in a very long time.
It was a night filled with lots of laughter, fun and getting down on the dance floor. It was like a big old reunion of the who’s who in the entertainment industry across the continent.
The performance by Zakes Bantwini, reminded us again just why he is one of the best. He knows how to get everyone dancing and singing along at the highest pitch, on or off-key. And the outfits were not holding anyone back, those ball gowns were sweeping the dance floor away.
The night was also a fashion show, with everyone dressed to impress. A feast for any fashion lover and everyone was ready to share their interpretation of the theme.
Guests were tasked with interpreting “Bridgerton Royalty, Regency with an African Flair”. They executed the dress code to their best understanding – some disastrously so. The brief was pretty simple, well depending on how you look at it, as celebrities had room to play with the theme.
Some celebrities rose to the occasion, and some missed the theme. Unfortunately, the host Zozibini Tunzi didn’t quite impress with her outfits, designed by David Tlale. The first dress was great, but the layered pearl neck piece was a bit too much. Perhaps something subtle could have been better? The second dress looked like a rushed project.
Hits
Thando Thabethe
We loved Thando Thabethe’s take on the theme. Lady Thabooty donned a dress by the House of Sass and Willet Designs Couture. It exuded Bridgerton royalty, with the corset look and overflowing skirt looking breathtaking.
Khanyi Mbau
Khanyi Mbau served African Queen vibes with her stunning gele (West African head wrap). Her stunning couture gown is from Dineo and Solo Langa’s fashion label Port of LNG. The look blended well together, and to top it off, Mbau wore it well.
The Queen Of The Night
Toke Makinwa was everyone’s favourite. If there was an award for the best dressed, I bet she would’ve won it. We can’t talk about outfits and not talk about the showstopper that was Makinwa’s outfit. It radiated Bridgerton Royalty and African flair in every sense! Gert-Johan Coetzee did not come to play with his interpretation of the theme.
