THE DA has nominated retired judges Jeanette Traverso, Yvonne Makgoro and Dikgang Moseneke to serve on the Section 89 Parliamentary Inquiry panel which will conduct a preliminary inquiry for an impeachment process concerning President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala scandal.

The panel will consider whether there is prima facie evidence for Parliament to institute an impeachment process in accordance with Section 89 of the Constitution – the first of its kind since the adoption of the rules a couple of years ago.

“All three nominees have vast legal experience and would fully appreciate the role required by the Section 89 Panel and the need for its independence,” DA chief whip Siviwe Gwarube said. | IOL

THE Cabinet has approved the General Laws (Anti-money laundering and combating terrorism financing) amendment bill that was tabled before Parliament to make the necessary changes to stop the country from being greylisted.

On Monday, the Minister of Finance tabled the General Laws (Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Terrorism Financing) Amendment Bill, 2022 (the Bill) in Parliament.

According to the Cabinet, this Bill should indicate to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and the world at large, that the South African government is committed to fighting corruption, money laundering and terrorism financing. | IOL
