Pageant sisters in spirit of charity
CHELSEA and Alexis Oosthuizen, sisters from Brackenfell, dedicated time to serve their community by doing clean-ups and donating and raising funds to support the less fortunate.
Chelsea, 8, and Alexis, 6, are Miss/ Mr Western Province 2022 finalists, and on Sunday they hosted a community clean-up where they removed seven bags of litter weighing about 20kg from around Helling Street.
As part of the pageant, the Bastion Primary School pupils are mandated to lead by example, making a positive impact in the community.
Their passion for giving started way before the pageant, as they were already part of Goodies for Paws, Goodies for Greys doing monthly donations. Now they help Bless a Baby non-profit organisation, schools and more.
“We love giving back to the community. We are collecting bread tags and bottle tops which get used to donate wheelchairs for the less fortunate. Please help us collect more. We are also running a fund-raising raffle. Funds raised will go towards communities in need,” said Chelsea, who is in the Little Miss Western Province 2022 category. Alexis is in the Mini Miss Western Province 2022 category.
Mom Amanda Oosthuizen said the sisters were excited about being in the finals. “I think it is really important for Chelsea and Alexis to be exposed to this as it’s not always about receiving, but also about giving back. I want them to realise there are families that are less fortunate. It doesn’t always have to be money-related; anything small can put a smile on others’ faces.”
Simone Eichler, managing director at One Moment in Time Pageant, said: “It is very important that children learn that you don’t have to be big to make a difference; it starts at home. And Chelsea and Alexis chose their projects and did this clean-up on the weekend. I am very proud of them.”
