Burkina Faso

-

BURKINA Faso’s new government has declared its top priority would be to secure the nation’s territory, after the latest coup to rock the jihadist-torn Sahel state. A UN envoy warned that 4.9 million people need urgent aid in Burkina Faso as many “mothers were forced to feed their children with leaves and salt”. At a first cabinet meeting, Captain Ibrahim Traore, who seized power this month, also assured US diplomats that he had no intention of inviting Russian Wagner forces to fight militants in the country, unlike Mali. Security has deteriorated since Wagner entered Mali, rights abuses have been reported and UN peacekeepers have been squeezed out. |
