TRAORE’S FIRST FOREIGN TRIP

-

OUAGADOUGOU: Burkina Faso’s new military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traore, headed to Mali this week for his first foreign trip since taking power on September 30, officials said. The junta chief, 34, met his Malian counterpart, Assimi Goita, who came to power in a putsch in August 2020. The main issue for discussion was the fight against terrorism, officials said, referring to the two countries’ struggle against jihadists. The two Sahel states rank among the poorest and most volatile in the world. |
