RETREAT FROM KHERSON
The UN is ready to supply humanitarian aid to the city of Kherson if safety guarantees are provided, UN spokesperson Stephanie Tremblay said. On Wednesday, Russia’s General Sergei Surovikin said his troops would withdraw from the city and take up defensive positions on the left bank of the Dnieper River. He said it was no longer possible to keep the city properly supplied amid constant shelling from Ukrainian forces. The general said the decision would also preserve the combat effectiveness of Russia’s troops operating in the zone of the special military operation. |
REPUBLICAN gains in Congress will bring headaches to President Joe Biden as he shepherds aid to Ukraine and on climate, but with midterm election results being unexpectedly close, Biden will still be firmly in command on the world stage.
The Democratic party performed better than expected and is potentially in a position to retain control of the Senate.
Biden appealed for political unity this week as his party looked set to narrowly lose control of the House of Representatives, calling for an end to “endless political warfare”.
“I’m prepared to work with my Republican colleagues,” he said. “The future of America is too promising to be trapped in an endless political warfare.”
