Chaplin’s cane a main attraction at sale
CHARLIE Chaplin’s “Tramp” baggy pants, floppy shoes, bowler hat and wobbly cane are familiar to many people.
At a recent auction at Julien’s in Hollywood, a cinephile secured one of the canes Chaplin used on screen. It was auctioned for $11 250 (about R132 000). The hat Chaplin wore in Monsieur Verdoux fetched $7 680.
The English comic actor, filmmaker and composer died in 1977 at the age of 88. – Auctions Writer
