‘RHINO-PLOMACY’: The six black rhi­nos flown out of Port El­iz­a­beth on Thurs­day, ar­rived safely in Zak­ouma Na­tional Park in Chad yes­ter­day. The an­i­mals are orig­i­nally from the Marakele Na­tional Park in Lim­popo and were kept in bo­mas at the Addo Ele­phant Na­tional Park for three months be­fore their de­par­ture. The mile­stone translo­ca­tion was un­der­taken by SANParks to ex­pand the range of black rhino which sur­vive in just a hand­ful of African coun­tries and as an im­por­tant ges­ture of “rhino-plomacy”. The last black rhino was poached from Chad 46 years ago, but the coun­try has in the past seven years re­duced poach­ing to al­most zero
