Dog shoots US man while ‘horsing around’

Weekend Post (South Africa) - - WORLD -

News in Brief A DOG accidentally shot his owner in the leg while the two were “horsing around” on a sofa on Wednesday.

Richard Remme was playing with his pitbull Labrador cross-breed, Balew, at his home in Fort Dodge, Iowa, when he started to feel a burning sensation.

In the rough-and-tumble the pet had managed to knock the safety on the Ruger 9mm pistol his owner was carrying and then hit the trigger with his paw.

Remme, 51,said: “I was lying on the couch. I carry in a belly band, under my bib overalls.

“It has a trigger safety as well as a thumb safety, and he managed to hit both of them, and it discharged and went into my leg, did no major damage to anything.”

He said he had not realised he had been shot a first but then saw his trouser leg was turning purple and called 911.

He said his loyal pet was distressed to learn that he had unwittingly harmed his master.

“The dog’s a big wuss. The poor dog laid down beside me and cried, because he thought he was in trouble for doing something wrong.” – The Telegraph
