Thieves escape with alcohol, crates of beer
Five men, one armed with a firearm, robbed Top Up Liquors in Dijon Road, Lorraine, at about 11am on Friday.
The men – all wearing hoodies – held the three employees at gunpoint.
One robber stood guard at the door while the others stole alcohol off the shelves.
During the robbery, one of the robbers climbed over the counter while ushering the employees to the back of the store.
According to officials, the suspects – whose getaway vehicle, a Corsa bakkie, was parked outside the entrance – stole several bottles of alcohol off the shelves and crates of beer.
CCTV footage showed that the entire robbery took less than two minutes.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said two of the men had entered the shop to buy cigarettes.
“While they were buying these , the other suspects entered the shop. One of them was armed with a firearm and ushered all the employees to the back of the store.”
Labans said one of the rob- bers had kept guard at the door to watch for police.
“They stole several bottles of alcohol and beer. At this stage the exact amount is unknown,” he said.
The men fled in the Corsa bakkie, which had been reported as hijacked in Algoa Park last month.
No-one was injured in the robbery.
