The Port Elizabeth harbour is fully operational after a container crane which collapsed earlier this week was removed.

On Friday Port manager Rajesh Dana said all port operations, including shipping and terminal operations, had returned to normal.

“The commercial shipping backlog has been recovered and depending on good weather conditions it is anticipated that the terminal operations should be fully recovered by next Wednesday,” he said.

This comes after the harbour suspended all commercial shipping movements temporarily on Tuesday after winds reaching speeds of up to 103km/h caused the crane to fall – partly blocking the channel entrance.
