Weekend Post (South Africa) - - Arts & Entertainment -

Port Elizabeth’s first Beach Camp Festival kicks off the summer season on Saturday November 24 at Mangolds Pool on Marine Drive.

The Corona Beach Camp Festival – organised by the same team which runs Baakens Food Truck Funday – is planned as an annual family event and will run from 11am to 11pm.

“Mangolds Pool is one of the oldest camping grounds in Port Elizabeth and famous for its really big tidal pool. Not many people know about this stunning venue, tucked away in Schoenmakerskop.

“The venue has campsites, chalets and tidal pools to swim and snorkel in – it’s honestly a gem,” co-organiser Tayla Foong said.

The day will include activities such as a trail run organised by Live Adventure; yoga with Wine Down; a Secret Sunrise dance; snorkeling tours with Pro Dive; pop-up cinema; as well as helicopter flips with the Helicopter Pilot Training Cen- tre and E’scape Airtours.

These tickets will be sold separately to general festival tickets.

The Baakens Food Trucks will roll in with street food.

There will also be a craft market curated by WERK_ with local artists and crafters showing their work.

The Corona beach bar will provide beverages throughout the day.

On the music front there will be two different stages, one at the tidal pool and the other the main stage.

The festival will provide a platform for local music with performances by Sham De Funk, Wesley Keet, Thoko, the Lawson Brown Steel Band and Jason Gladwin, among others.

“We have selected a 100% local line-up to show that we are putting together more than a music festival.

“We want to create a hype around all things local, and show off the talents of the Eastern Cape in a unique and magical setting,” Foong said.

Festival goers should bring sunblock, camp chairs, picnic blankets, umbrellas and pool floaties.

Tickets at R100 for adults and R30 for children are available from Pro Dive in Walmer, La Boca in Central, Foong’s in the Baakens Valley and at Mangolds Pool. Online tickets can be bought at http://qkt.io/beachcamp
