Solinas quits as coach of battling Chiefs
Italian coach Giovanni Solinas quit soccer club Kaizer Chiefs on Friday, halfway through his first season in charge after failing to transform the struggling Johannesburg side.
He has been replaced by German Ernst Middendorp, who has coached the team previously.
Chiefs have gone three-and-a-half seasons without adding to their silverware.
A Chiefs statement said there had been an “amicable termination of the contract with immediate effect”, which is an euphemism for leave or be fired.
Chiefs reached the second qualifying round of the CAF Confederation Cup this week, but only after the embarrassment of losing to a club from African minnows Zanzibar.
