This biographical drama film, based on the memoirs Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction by David Sheff and Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines by Nic Sheff, is the story of a father’s relationship with his drug-addict son.

When New York Times writer David Sheff (Steve Carell) discovers his son Nic (Golden Globe-nominated Timothée Chalamet) has a drug problem, he tries his best to help him stay sober, even sending him to rehab facilities.

Nic, formerly an actor, artist, athlete and editor of the school newspaper with good grades, tries to stay sober but relapses each time.

His addiction gets out of hand when he crosses paths with old friend and drug addict Lauren after having been sober for a significant while.
