Bizarre moments at the Golden Globes —
LAST weekend’s Golden Globe Awards featured some of the strangest moments of any award ceremony in recent years. Here are some of the best moments according to The Hollywood Reporter. • Alfonso Cuaron, winner of the Best Director award for Gravity, told guests at the Beverly Hilton that his grasp of the English language sometimes led to humorous mixups on set. Addressing his star, Sandra Bullock, he said, “I want to thank you for not quitting when you thought that I had told you, ‘Sandra, I’m going to give you herpes,’ when I really meant to say, ‘Sandra, I’m going to give you an earpiece’.”
• In her acceptance speech for Best Actress Alfonso Cuaron, Best Director winner for
Gravity. in a Motion Picture — Drama, Blue Jasmine star Cate Blanchett referenced the late Judy Garland, who died of an overdose of barbiturates in 1969, saying: “Thank you to my agents for plying me with vodka in the same way that Judy Garland was probably plied with barbiturates.”
• A proud Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, whose daughter, Sosie Bacon, was this year’s Miss Golden Globe, were ambushed on stage by “Mr Golden Globe”, who was revealed to be “Randy”, Tina Fey’s son from a previous relationship.
Randy was in fact Fey’s cohost, Amy Poehler, in a blonde wig and tuxedo. When Fey threatened to send Randy to live with his father, Randy responded: “You won’t tell me who he is.”
“He’s here tonight, so look around,” Fey shot back. First up was Idris Elba, star of
Host Amy Poehler (left) and Miss Golden Globe Sosie Bacon.
