AUCTION history can be traced back to the ancient Romans. It is said that goods were auctioned in the “atrium auctionarium”. Auction history tells tales of the trading comprising four entities; the buyer, the seller, the auctioneer and the promoter. Through the ages, of auction history it seems that little has changed.

Auctions are still performed in the same way today. The items being traded have changed, however.

In the year 193 CE, it is said that the entire Roman Empire was put up for auction!
