Artists explore their creative human spirit
CURRENTLY on show at artSPACE durban is Gather, a group exhibition, facilitated by Grace Kotze, who choose to paint together and exhibit as a collective.
Gather represents a cross section of creative spirits, from beginners to exhibiting artists who enjoy the experience of learning and growing through the process of a collective exploratory experience.
This show is a celebration of the creative nature of the human spirit and the will to reach for more than what the structure of the daytoday presents.
Artists vary in age from teenagers to retirees, yet all possess the same will to explore and create.
Also at the gallery at 3 Millar Road, Durban, is Megan Bonnetard’s Traces. In this body of work she expresses the traces which are left on her by the subject and which she in turn leaves on the subject. Bonnetard has used two main vehicles for this expression: portrait and landscape.
Showing in the front room and corridor is SUMIE by Ingrid Adams, whose work is rooted in the technique and process of SUMIE.
The subject matter is of movement in qigong practice, portraits, and land, using chance, mark and washes. The medium is ink stick on mulberry, rice and Waterford paper. The second section is mainly abstracts, the colours inspired by meditative visions. These exhibitions will run until April 12. The gallery is open from 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday and from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays. Inquiries: 031 312 0793. — Arts Editor.
