There is a f east of mu­sic await­ing vis­i­tors to The Wit­ness Hil­ton Arts Fes­ti­val, which runs at Hil­ton Col­lege this week­end, writes ESTELLE SINKINS

In this sho w, Dur ban­ites B arry Thom­son, J ason Andr ew and M arion Loudon get b ack t o the r oot of w hat makes a great song and give the melody and l yrics sp ace t o shine.

Hits from Si­mon and Gar­funkel, the Erhyth­mics, Ali­son M oyet, Mumf ord and Sons, Avicii, Pharell Wil­liams and Avril Lav­i­gne, all get a new look in this show, w hich is in the Art Block at 8.15 pm t oday. Tick ets ar e R100.

Singer­song­writer Guy B ut­tery and drum­mer Gareth Gale, will be show­cas­ing the mu­sic which won them a cov­eted Sil­ver Ova­tion Award at this y ear’s Na­tional Arts Fes­ti­val in Grahamstown when the y perf orm in the Chapel at 2 pm to­mor­row. Ex­pect high dy­nam­ics, deep gr ooves, del­i­cat e African in­flec­tions and mind­bend­ing guit ar and drum chem­istry of a new or­der. Tick­ets are R100.

At 4 pm to­mor­row is Mem­phis 55, a trib­ute show in­spired by the 1955 col­lab­o­ra­tion be­tween rock ’n roll icons Elvis Pres­ley, J ohnny Cash, J erry Lee Le wis and Carl Perkins.

The quart et w ent on t o t our the world and changed the course of mu­sic his­tory, in­spir­ing a ne w gen­er­a­tion of mu­si­cians in­clud­ing T he B ea­tles, The Who, T he R olling St ones and man y more.

The show, which is in the Art Block, in­cludes hits such as Blue Suede Shoes, Great Balls of Fir e, Walk the Line , Fol­som Prison Blues and more. Tick­ets are R100.
