Selection headache for ‘Micho’ ahead of Caf match

Weekend Witness - - Sport -

ORLANDO Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic faces a selection poser ahead of their final clash of the year in Windhoek today at 4 pm.

Pirates’ medical staff will go into the short Christmas break chuffed that all personnel are fully fit and raring to go for today’s Caf Champions League test against African Stars.

More pleased will be Sredojevic and his technical team, who have the headache of selecting a side to do the business in their high-stakes encounter at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Word from the Bucs camp is that everyone is available for the trip, with only reserve goalkeepers Wayne Sandilands and Brilliant Khuzwayo having nursed slight niggles this week.

In their goalless draw in the first leg at home last weekend, the likes of club top goal-scorer Thembinkosi Lorch and striker Augustine Mulenga started on the bench as Paseka Mako and Meshack Maphangule were afforded game-time.

However, with their progression in the competition at stake in the away tie, the Serbian tactician will be tempted to field his strongest side to ensure they get the job done and qualify for the round robin stage.

In central midfield, where Mpho Makola and Linda Mntambo have featured in their last two matches, “Micho” will be pondering whether to retain the duo who helped them to an impressive 3-1 victory over Free State Stars last Tuesday, or return to regulars Musa Nyatama and Xola Mlambo, who featured in the Telkom Knockout final.

Meawhile, Sundowns are set to host Libyan outfit Al-Ahly Benghazi in their group stage play-off encoun- ter scheduled for Lucas Moripe Stadium this afternoon at 3 pm.

Having returned home with the aggregate score at 0-0 last weekend, the 2016 continental champions could be left to rue their missed opportunities should things not go their way this weekend.

Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs are set to visit Elgeco Plus of Madagascar for the second leg of their first-round tie at the Analamanga Stadium in Antananarivo at 1.30 pm today, after registering a 3-0 victory at Moses Mabhida Stadium last Saturday. — KickOff.
