What I really use The beauty products our expert loves
Dr Portia Gumede, founder of Dr P Aesthetic Lifestyle Centre, shares what’s on her beauty shelf and how she makes the most of her natural hair with nifty care tricks...
Diptyque Rich Butter for the Body, R1 065 for 200ml
This is my winter-skin go-to when I need a blast of nourishment. I like that it absorbs quickly – it doesn’t leave any oily residue, just a lovely rose scent.
LCN Nail Care 7in1 Wonder Nail Recovery, from R196,70 Who doesn’t enjoy a great multitasking product? This polish works as a base coat or top coat, plus it fills out ridges and strengthens. Using this, my nails look and feel their best.
Portrait of a Lady by Dominique Ropion for Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle, R4 655 for 100ml I adore feminine scents that are strong, but not overwhelming, and this hits the mark with gorgeous notes of rose and sandalwood.
My idea of ‘me time’ bliss? Slipping into a hot bath, enveloped by the dreamy aroma of my French Lavender and Neroli Dr P candles, R449 for 220g each.
5 HAIR TREATMENT
Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream, R159,95 for 453g I lather a little of this into the ends of my hair, working it upwards towards the roots, then brush through. It’s an affordable quick-fix that really softens and banishes frizz. Love it!
6 HAIR TOOL
Denman Professional D23 Afro Comb, R49 You don’t need harsh styling tools to add shape and volume. I often just leave my hair to airdry before brushing it out with a good old-fashioned comb.
Kryolan Glamour Glow bronzer in Bronzing Sun, R524 I’m not a fan of blusher. I prefer to give my cheeks a more subtle dusting of sun-kissed colour with bronzer to add contour.
