‘THE KIDS LOVE LOUD CRACKERS’

Woman & Home (South Africa) - - Exclusive Interviews -

Actor DUNCAN JOHNSON, 53, lives in Joburg’s West Rand. He has a teenage son from a previous relationship.

Host or guest? My five sisters take turns to host the Christmas festivities, so I’m the guest. I usually help with decorations.

Festive traditions? The whole family gets together in Cape Town – about 25 of us. We’re seven children, and we’ve all got kids. At our dos, everyone talks at once and there’s food to feed an army. Imagine those loud Italian families you see in films – that’s exactly how we are.

What’s on the menu? We go for variety, so there’ll be meat and veggie dishes, plus biryani curry and loads of desserts.

Big celebration moment? We share a toast at lunch on Christmas Day, and the kids follow this with noisy crackers.

Paper crowns – yes, or no? Sadly, no. Even though we love the crackers, no one wears the hats – go figure.

Top of your playlist? Everything from traditional carols and Wham!’s Last

Christmas to my favourite, Boney M.

Catch Duncan in The Docket, on every Wednesday at 9.30pm on SABC 3, Dstv channel 193. w&h
