This lovingly updated beachfront home allows the owners and their guests to relax in absolute style and comfort
When Grant Smith and Malcolm Osborne bought this ocean-view property as a holiday home in 2012, they knew it had the potential to become something really special.
Built in the 1950s and added to over the years, the three-bedroom house was well-loved but rundown, and failed to make the most of its sea-facing location. After spending weekends in the house for a year, getting a feel for its qualities of space and light, Grant and Malcolm felt they needed a better connection between the home and its environment, and a layout that was more conducive to relaxing and entertaining friends.
The complete refresh included the transformation of the kitchen, bathrooms and veranda. A separate, self-contained granny flat was also reconfigured into a guest suite (with one bedroom and an extra bed in the living area) and then incorporated into the main space.
Glass stacking doors were installed to provide generous views and easy access to the beach. At the rear of the house, an al fresco area was revamped by converting the existing laundry into an outdoor kitchen with a braai. Next, new decks and screens in recycled hardwood were put in and the pool >>
