Re­ly­ing on a fer­til­ity app could be, um, ill­con­ceived: re­cent re­search found that most are un­re­li­able, with fer­til­ity win­dows of­ten in­clud­ing days when your baby­mak­ing chances are slim. Many apps rely on rough es­ti­mates, like cer­vi­cal mu­cus changes and pe­riod tim­ing, and since users are charged with in­putting the data, hu­man er­ror fac­tors in too. But de­vices that di­rectly mea­sure changes in skin tem­per­a­ture over time may make for more reliable preg­nancy pre­dic­tions, says fer­til­ity ex­pert Dr Sheeva Talebian.
