Q: What’s your fastest dinner recipe?

Woolworths TASTE - - Final Tidbit - Gary Mehigan, MasterChef Australia judge

A: 14-MINUTE PRESSURE COOKER BOLOGNESE

TASTE food editor Abigail Donnelly caught up with Gary while he was in Pretoria for the Appetite Fest a few months back. So what’s his favourite fast-and-easy recipe? “I love my pressure cooker; I make a great pressure-cooker Bolognese in 14 minutes.”

His other great time-saving invention is “the chicken and walk the dog dish”. The secret? Place a chicken on the braai, then take the dog for a long walk. When you get back 70 minutes later, rest the chicken and serve it with a watermelon-and-yoghurt salad.

While in SA, Gary also found time to eat at David Higgs’s brand-new Jozi restaurant, Saint. His Instagram review:

“Décor and set-up fabulous … food delicious, as expected.” Sounds like David survived the pressure test.

If you’re a die-hard MasterChef Oz fan, look out for a royal guest on the next season – Prince Charles will reportedly be on set. @garymehigan
