Sweet potatoes with flavoured butter

1 MARROW BONES

2 marrow bones per

person salt and pepper

Put the marrow bones on a sheet of foil. Season with salt and pepper, wrap and place close to hot coals for about 30 minutes or until the marrow is cooked and soft.

2 MEALIES WITH FLAVOURED BUTTER

5 min Cooking about 30 min

1 mealie in the husk per

person flavoured butter of your choice (recipes on page 14)

Pull back the husks of the mealie, rub the kernels with flavoured butter, cover with the husks again and tie in place. Wrap in foil if not in husks. Position close to moderate coals for about

30 minutes or until done.

3 SWEET POTATOES WITH FLAVOURED BUTTER

1-2 sweet potatoes in

the jacket per person flavoured butter of your choice (recipes on page 14)

SERVES 1 Preparatio­n 10 min Cooking 45-60 min

Rub the sweet potatoes with the butter and wrap in foil. Place close to moderate coals for 45-60 minutes or until soft. Slit the top and dot with flavoured butter.

4 CABBAGE

1 Savoy cabbage

125 g bacon, fried and

chopped a little butter mixed with

5 ml (1 t) soup powder

SERVES 6 Preparatio­n 10 min Cooking 20 min

Cut slits in the cabbage, push the bacon into the slits and rub the cabbage with the butter mixture. Put the cabbage on a sheet of foil, add a little water and wrap. Place near hot coals and cook for about 20 minutes or until done.

5 RED ONIONS

1 red onion in its skin

per person flavoured butter of your choice (recipes on page 14)

SERVES 1 Preparatio­n

5 min Cooking 20-30 min

Rub the onion with the butter, wrap in foil and place near moderate coals for 20-30 minutes or until soft.

6 FETA CHEESE

AND TOMATOES

large piece of feta

cheese few whole garlic cloves tomatoes on the vine salt and pepper

SERVES 2-4 Preparatio­n

5 min Cooking 10 min

Put the cheese on a sheet of foil, top with the garlic and tomatoes, season with salt and pepper and wrap in the foil. Place close to moderate coals for 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted slightly.
