Gourmet boeries
Get creative with hot dog accompaniments and transform it into a gourmet meal.
CARAMELISED
ONIONS oil
4 onions, sliced
3 garlic cloves, crushed 7 ml (1½ t) dried thyme 30 ml (2 T) balsamic vinegar or red wine
30 ml (2 T) Dijon
mustard
honey and/or brown
sugar to taste
HOT DOGS
4 cheese bread rolls,
halved
400 g boerewors handful rocket
30 g Gruyère cheese or mature Cheddar cheese shavings
1 Caramelised onions Heat a little oil and fry the onions until soft. Add the garlic and thyme and stir-fry until fragrant.
2 Add the remaining ingredients, reduce the heat and cook for 30 minutes or until caramelised.
3 Hot dogs Toast the rolls if desired and braai the sausage over the coals until done.
4 Put a few rocket leaves in each roll, place the sausages on top and pile a generous spoonful of the caramelised onions on the sausages. Finish with cheese shavings.
