SERVES 4 Prepa­ra­tion time: 10 min Cook­ing time: 45 min

Pre­heat the oven to 180 ° C. 1 Put the stew­ing beef in a mix­ing bowl, sea­son with pep­per and sprin­kle the brown onion soup pow­der

750 g stew­ing beef freshly ground pep­per 1 packet ( 45 g) brown onion soup pow­der 5 ml ( 1 t) cake flour 6- 8 baby onions, peeled 4 gar­lic cloves, crushed few sprigs of fresh thyme over. Mix well. 2 Spoon the flour into a large roast­ing bag, close the bag and shake well. Put the bag on a bak­ing sheet. Open it and add the onions, gar­lic and thyme, spread­ing the ingredients evenly. 3 Ar­range the beef on top of the onions in the bag and fasten ac­cord­ing to the packet in­struc­tions. 4 Bake for 45 min­utes or un­til the meat is ten­der. Serve with blanched green beans, if pre­ferred.

Leave out the soup pow­der and roll the meat in a mix­ture of 60 ml ( ¼ c) cake flour, 15 ml ( 1 T) braai spices and 15 ml ( 1 T) dried mixed herbs.
