DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
The department provides bursaries to applicants studying towards undergraduate degrees in education, engineering, science, technology, arts, computer science or post- graduate certification in education.
WHO CAN APPLY South Africans from a disadvantaged background with proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution.
Successful candidates will be required to teach at a public school for the same number of years as the duration of their studies.
WHAT’S COVERED It’s a fullcost bursary that covers all expenses.

JAKES GERWEL FELLOWSHIP
This bursary, named after late academic Professor Jakes Gerwel, is for education students who want to improve the education system itself.
WHO CAN APPLY South African Grade 11 and matric students under the age of 23 with an average of 65% who intend studying at the University of the Western Cape or the University of Pretoria. Recipients will have to teach at a South African high school.
WHAT’S COVERED Tuition, books, accommodation, meals, a monthly stipend, leadership development, academic support, mentoring and personal coaching.

ISLAMIC DEVELOPMENT BANK
The IDB Education trust is a faith-based NGO that offers interest-free loan bursaries to students in their first year of study at undergrad, honours, master’s or doctorate level.
WHO CAN APPLY SA students at recognised universities will be considered. Preference will be given to those in financial need and applicants must agree to attend all tarbiyyah (development and training) programmes, events and courses hosted by the IDB Education Trust.

The global investment manager offers bursaries for a variety of fields including education.
WHO CAN APPLY SA matric pupils or matriculants under the age of 22 with a minimum overall average of 70% in English and mathematics or sciences in Grade 11 and who are in financial need.
Applicants must have an excellent academic record and show strong leadership qualities.
