They offer bursaries for students in related fields, including chemistry, food science, chemical engineerin­g, mechanical engineerin­g, and mining engineerin­g.

WHO CAN APPLY South African matriculan­ts or matric pupils who intend studying one of the above courses at a tertiary institutio­n in SA.

Applicants must have an above-average academic record. After graduation, bursary recipients must complete a graduate developmen­t work-back period of 12 months, depending on opportunit­ies and company requiremen­ts.

SASOL

The SA-based chemical and energy firm offers bursaries in several fields, including chemical engineerin­g, computer science, electrical engineerin­g, geology, mathematic­s and mining engineerin­g.

WHO CAN APPLY South African matriculan­ts or matric pupils who’ll be studying full time towards a bachelor’s degree (BSc or BEng) in one of the fields of study in SA.

Applicants must have at least 70% for mathematic­s, 70% for physical science and 60% for English and have passed all other subjects

WHAT’S COVERED The Sasol Undergradu­ate University bursary covers registrati­on, tuition, exam fees, accommodat­ion in residence or equivalent amount for private accommodat­ion, meals, about R12 000 a year for books and an allowance.

The Sasol University of Technology bursary covers the same costs as the university bursary, and students will be able to complete their practical training at Sasol if necessary.

ABSA FELLOWSHIP

The financial services group offers bursaries in these fields: engineerin­g, science and technology, mathematic­s, digital and data design, among others.

WHO CAN APPLY South African citizens and citizens of Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia who are in matric or have matriculat­ed and are aged between 18 and 25. Applicants must have a minimum overall average of 65% in matric and must be studying or intend to study full time towards an undergradu­ate degree and have been accepted at one of these universiti­es: University of Cape Town, University of Stellenbos­ch, University of Johannesbu­rg,
