Four smaller, very powerful booster rockets and a central rocket are all ignited at the same time. They burn the propellants liquid oxygen and kerosene in the combustion chambers at high velocity which forces the rocket to launch in the opposite direction – skyward. Once the four booster rockets have used up all their fuel, they are no longer necessary. They are discarded and fall back to Earth in an isolated and uninhabited area.
