Heart sand­wiches with side salad

Kids love food cut into shapes – which usu­ally makes them more likely to eat it! Get them to help make these sand­wiches.

6 sand­wiches

Prepa­ra­tion time: 10 min­utes


15 ml (1 T) mus­tard mixed with 100 g soft­ened but­ter 6 slices of low-gi white bread 6 slices of low-gi whole­wheat bread 200 g ham slices tub (240 g) herb cream cheese or Mar­mite


hand­ful of mixed salad leaves cherry toma­toes, chopped chives to taste 1 Sand­wiches Spread the mus­tard but­ter on each slice of bread (white and whole­wheat). 2 Place a slice of ham on a slice of white bread and cover with a sec­ond slice of bread. 3 Spread herb cream cheese or Mar­mite on a slice of whole­wheat bread and cover with the other slice. 4 Cut out 4 hearts from each sand­wich and ar­range 2 white and 2 whole­wheat hearts to­gether, points fac­ing each other. Wrap in wax pa­per. Re­peat with the re­main­ing in­gre­di­ents. 5 Salad Mix the in­gre­di­ents and dish into a screw-top jar or lunchbox. Place in a lunch bag with the sand­wiches.
