YOUmagazin­eSA Oscar’s trial enthralled the nation. As millions of people binge-watched their way through the mesmerisin­g trial, and grimly witnessed the gruesome pictures of the body of Reeva Steenkamp, many had their own conspiracy theories and opinions as to why he did it.

A Shakespear­ian tragedy of epic proportion­s has run its course. It’s time for South Africans to move on.

In Oscar’s act we should see the arms dealers, the abusers and the bullies. Each contribute to a killing – either physically or of the spirit.

We, the so-called innocents, reward ourselves by being complacent armchair judges, ignoring the fact that we’ve been lucky to have escaped the test of life’s circumstan­ces.

A quote from Yann Martel’s novel Life Of Pi should give us pause for thought: “For evil in the open is but evil from within that has been let out.
