I SAID THIS By Craig Lucas It’s hard to believe the first time he stepped onto a stage was in the second season of The Voice SA. He went on to win the show and now this singer from Elsies River, Cape Town, is taking the music scene by storm with the first single off his forthcoming debut album. The soulful, feel-good track is a tribute to his fans. “This song is for them,” he says. “The lyrics speak about it being ‘our song’ and that’s what I wanted it to be. It perfectly encapsulates how I’ve felt since winning The Voice. I wanted to share the good vibes with everyone else.” FETISH By Selena Gomez ft Gucci Mane Seductive lyrics, an infectious beat . . . what’s not to love about Selena’s latest single? The pop starlet continues her musical reinvention on this steamy new track as she croons about a “crazy and complicated” love. Well, we have a fetish for this tune! She’s not the strongest singer but the sensual tone of her voice, paired with Gucci Mane’s sick rap skills, make this one hot track. It’s the second single off Selena’s upcoming third album, SG2. If Fetish and the first single, Bad Liar, are anything to go by it will be well worth the wait . . . POOR ME By Shania Twain We’re officially excited about this country icon’s long-awaited fifth album, due to drop next month. Poor Me, the second single, is all about wallowing in self-pity and isn’t as upbeat as the first one, Life’s About To Get Good. Some were quick to point out that Poor Me sounds very similar to US DJ duo The Chainsmokers’ massive hit Don’t Let Me Down. But, Shania says, after co-writing for years she penned all the songs on her latest album herself. “It’s all about independence, and I needed to learn that about myself, to rediscover that about myself.” UNFORGETTABLE By French Montana ft Swae Lee This track has been out for a while but it would be criminal not to have it on your playlist! French Montana teams up with Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee for this hot, afrobeats-inspired tune. The video was shot in Uganda and has the two musos dancing in the streets with locals. French found inspiration from watching Ugandan dance group Triplets Ghetto Kids on YouTube. Unforgettable could become the Moroccan-born US rapper’s biggest hit to date – it’s already spent weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. KISSING STRANGERS By DNCE ft Nicki Minaj DNCE never disappoint and their latest single is no exception. The US outfit, fronted by Joe Jonas, team up with Nicki Minaj for the first single off their forthcoming second album. “Kissing Strangers is about having fun with a stranger, getting to know them a little better, [and then] they’re no longer a stranger,” Joe says. The band are huge fans of the No Frauds rapper. “We sent Nicki the track, she wrote her verse in five minutes, and it came out exactly as we’d hoped. She kills it . . . in the best way.”
