Catching up with TiMO ODV

SA’s hottest EDM sensation has a banging new EP out called Move. We caught up with the 27-year-old to find out more

- COMPILED BY NICI DE WET

Describe your new release in one word. Bass! How’s it different to your previous EP? It has a bouncier tech-house feel – it’s more of a party starter.

It’s different from the previous EP in the style of music – there’s way more of a tech-house and techno feel. The previous one was more bass house and commercial deep house. Where did you record it and how long did it take? In my garage in Kempton Park, Gauteng, which I’ve turned into a music studio.

The EP began to take form when I started testing the tracks out in my live sets. I put it together over the past nine months. Do you have a favourite track? No, each song was made with a different purpose in mind – like Move for radio and Your Love for all my fans who’ve started loving darker, bassier music. Who inspires you musically? At the moment, guys like Jonas Rathsman, Ron Costa, Victor Ruiz and Stephan Bodzin. Do you own music that would surprise people? The Backstreet Boys’ first album – but then again, almost every ’90s kid was either a Backstreet Boys or NSync fan. Your dream collaborator? I don’t have one. But I would really love to sit with great producers and learn some of their skills. Your future plans? Make more music and then go DJ it all out and hopefully hear other DJs playing it. What do you do to relax? I watch TV, play [online battle arena game] Dota 2, chill with mates or go shopping.
