PAYING IT FORWARD

-

BEING a tad cynical, I was sceptical about the concept of paying goodness and kindness forward. Recently one of my staff waited on a table, giving her customers her best. They seemed happy as they enjoyed their meal. When they were done a gentleman from the party approached me and asked me to process a R1 000 tip on a bill of R300, and asked me to hand the money to the waitress, who burst into tears of joy, disbelief written all over her face.

The gentleman shared with me that at one point he’d been destitute and without work for three years. After being given the opportunity to minister and spread the gospel, he’d turned his life around and decided to perform random acts of kindness.

I don’t know his name, but his selflessness touched me and the other staff who witnessed this act of generosity.

Life’s like that. We should never forget those less fortunate. And yes, the wheel does turn. PETER BACHTIS, EMAIL
