Madiba was very serious about security but when he saw children playing he would stop the convoy so he could go and greet them. We weren’t supposed to do that but we had to do it for him. I remember that when we were planning his route and we knew he’d probably pass children we would warn our colleagues, “Guys, on the left-hand side there are children. Take care, we might stop.” (Turn over)
