ISIMANGALISO WETLAND PARK
This natural wetland and coastal site in KwaZulu-Natal is home to nearly 7 000 species of animals and plants – including nearly 500 threatened species. It’s been a World Heritage site since 1999 and features coral reefs, sandy beaches, coastal dunes, lake systems, swamps and extensive reed and papyrus wetlands.
Its location on the coast between subtropical and tropical Africa means it’s home to an exceptional diversity of species.
Traditional fish traps, seen in this picture, are still used here.
