Demi’s ongoing addiction battle

- – DEMI ON WILMER

JUST days before she was hospitalised for a suspected drug overdose, pop star DEMI LOVATO (25) seemed to forget the words to her new relapse song, Sober. Fans at her California Mid-State Fair show put her momentary memory lapse down to the pressures of her hectic tour schedule. But two days later Demi was found unconscious at her home after apparently overdosing on an unknown substance. Demi – who was only 17 when she went to rehab for the first time – has always been outspoken about her battle with drugs and alcohol. “I had to learn the hard way that I can’t do parties anymore,” she told the website Refinery29 in 2016. “Some people can go out and not be triggered, but that’s not the case for me.” Sadly it’s a lesson she seems to have forgotten in recent months. Although the Grammynominated star managed to keep her relapse quiet until recently, it was reported she’d already fallen off the wagon at the beginning of the year. She started arguing with her sober coach, Mike Bayer, in March and fired him just three weeks before her suspected overdose.

“He felt like she was always making excuses for herself and her bad behaviour and not telling him the truth about what she was up to. He called her out on her s**t – which she didn’t appreciate,” a source says.

Those closest to the singer insist she’s keen to get back on track.

“She’ll be leaving the hospital and heading straight to rehab. Her family have been by her side supporting her and are getting her the help she needs,” another source says.

Besides her mom, Dianna De La Garza (55), and sisters Dallas Lovato (30) and Madison De La Garza (16), another constant at Demi’s side has been her ex-boyfriend WILMER VALDERRAMA (38).

The NCIS star has visited Demi twice since she was rushed to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai hospital, staying for five hours on one visit.

Although they split in 2016 after six years of dating, Demi has cited Wilmer as the reason she’s overcome her addiction battles in the past.

Many of her celebrity pals have flocked to social media to share messages of support, while heartbroken fans have spoken out about how her music has helped them through their darkest moments.

Everyone’s rooting for you, Demi!
