Oprah: I’m the happiest person I know

Her incredible drive has made Oprah a billionaire – but her greatest pleasure is doing absolutely nothing

BILLIONS in the bank, a Midas touch for everything from TV shows to books to business, and a man who adores her. Oprah Winfrey really does have it all – and she knows it. No poor little rich girl for this media mogul: the 64-year-old is living her best life. “I don’t know anyone happier,” she tells Vogue in a revealing new interview.

“I look at other people and I think, they look happy. But not as happy as me.”

And yet the secret to Oprah’s happiness is something you might not expect. It isn’t basking in her incredible success or travelling the world. Nor is it a juicy new movie role or even getting stuck into charity work – all of which she loves.

It is, in fact, doing nothing. “I can go for weeks and never turn on a television. I’ve gone a summer not having it on. No, my guilty pleasure is I do nothing,” she says.

“I live in a beautiful space. Every time I leave home and drive out the back by the pond and ducks, I look at the grass and see the house on the hill and I have this moment where I think about when Dorothy says in The Wizard of Oz, ‘I learnt I didn’t have to look further than my own backyard.’ Every time I think of that.

“Most people don’t even know what makes them happy.”

We look at the fabulous life of Oprah – and how she manages to find peace under pressure. She may have called time on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011 after 25 years on air – but that doesn’t mean the queen of talk’s been resting on her laurels. Along with the launch of her own TV network, OWN, the Oscar-winner’s had a steady stream of diverse acting roles.

Most recently, she starred as Mrs Which in the film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time.

She’s also getting into the streaming business after having signed a deal with Apple. It’s likely she’ll be involved in programming and creating original content for the company, which aims to compete with services such as Netflix.

Apple hasn’t divulged much about the deal. “Winfrey and Apple will create original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world,” the company said in a statement.
