Good for Jes­sica Whit­ton that she’s been so for­tu­nate to con the con­man (YOU, 1 Novem­ber). For a lot of us this is un­for­tu­nately not the case, and we still bear

the scars of be­ing scammed. Your ex­pert, psy­chol­o­gist Lucy Papil­lon, pointed out that peo­ple ig­nore their gut in­stinct but if you’ve been brain­washed it’s truly hard to lis­ten to any in­stinct at all.

It’s sad that here in South Africa there’s no as­sis­tance when this hap­pens. That’s why happy out­comes like the one in this ar­ti­cle get head­lines and scammed peo­ple are over­looked. No won­der peo­ple are ashamed to ad­mit to be­ing vic­tims. MARY DANIELS, EMAIL
