YOU (South Africa)

Have you heard

BEING one fifth of hit boyband One Direction may have made ZAYN MALIK (25) both rich and famous, but he definitely didn’t make many friends. In a recent interview with British Vogue, the singer opened up about his rather negative experiences in the group. “I’ve always been a bit like that, though – always a bit of an island,” Zayn says.

“I don’t like to confer with too many people.”

“I ain’t spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you,” he says. “That’s just the way it is. There’s things that happened and things that were said after I left. Snide things. Small things I’d never have expected.”

Zayn blames the beef on the quintet’s meteoric rise to fame.

“We went from theatres to arenas to stadiums. There was never any sort of bridge between. Just boom, boom, boom,” he says. “I guess that kind of progression to any mind – but especially when you’re 17, 18 – it kind of affects you a little bit. People take it different ways, especially when there are five different personalities. The relationships had broken apart. That’s just the way it is. People move on, people grow apart, people grow up.” While his former bandmate Niall Horan (25) seems adamant there’ll be a 1D reunion, it’s clear that Zayn won’t be a part of it. Guess he’ll be One Direction’s Posh Spice.

The Let Me hitmaker says he leans on his girlfriend, American model GIGI HADID (23), and loves her organisational skills. “Everything is great. She’s superorganised and I’m really not. It helps that she can get things together for me a little bit. I lean on her a lot.”
